One-On-One Workshopping

An enduring partnership that pairs editorial insight with strategic guidance, fostering clarity, confidence, and growth as you shape your work over time.

What to expect from one-on-one workshopping.

Working one-on-one offers a thoughtful, collaborative space to bring your writing to its full potential. Together, we focus on structure, clarity, and voice, while equipping you with tools to sustain your growth long after the project ends.

A Collaborative Partnership

I take time to understand your goals and vision, so the work reflects and strengthens your voice rather than reshaping it.

Structure and Language in Harmony

We address both the big picture—throughline, argument, pacing—and the fine grain of language. Many writers discover new depth and precision in their work through this dual focus.

Guidance That Builds Confidence

Our conversations are where breakthroughs happen. We look closely at what isn’t working and find thoughtful ways to revise, often turning sticking points into moments of clarity.

Tools for Lasting Growth

I aim not only to strengthen your manuscript but also to give you strategies you can apply independently. Many writers describe this as a lasting shift in how they approach their craft.

Meaningful Results

Writers often see tangible outcomes: renewed confidence, publication opportunities, and a clearer sense of direction for future work.

FAQs

  • Consider how frequently you’d like to receive feedback and how much writing you can reasonably produce or revise between sessions.

    • Momentum (weekly) is ideal if you’re on a deadline or want strong accountability.

    • Rhythm (biweekly) offers time to revise between sessions while keeping up steady progress.

    • Horizon (monthly) works well if you prefer a slower drafting pace with periodic, in-depth check-ins.

  • Each session is a focused, one-on-one conversation about the pages you’ve submitted in advance. We’ll discuss structure, language, and strategy, clarify any sticking points, and outline next steps so you leave with a clear editorial path forward.

  • Yes. You can adjust your tier as your project evolves. For example, some writers begin with Momentum to build momentum early on, then shift to Rhythm or Horizon for longer revision phases.

  • Not at all. Many writers begin mentorship at the proposal or early drafting stage, using the sessions to develop structure, sharpen their ideas, and establish a productive writing rhythm.

  • The timeline is flexible. Some writers work with me for a few months to finish a specific project; others prefer a longer-term partnership that supports multiple stages of their writing journey.

  • Workshopping involves developmental feedback, but it’s more iterative and conversational. Instead of receiving a single, large editorial letter, you receive ongoing, tailored feedback as your work evolves—along with strategic guidance for your writing process.

  • Before each session, I’ll read your pages closely and provide written notes and line comments. During the meeting, we’ll expand on those notes and work through solutions together.

What people are saying.

“Natalie brings numerous strengths to her role as an editor. She is a careful and empathetic reader who takes the time to understand the trajectory of my journey and the evolution of my thinking as an author. She encouraged me to make these aspects more transparent in the narrative. Her feedback is clear, non-judgmental, and constructive, delivered with kindness.

To anyone considering hiring Natalie, you’re about to make an excellent choice in working with her! Her presence on my team has been nothing but supportive.”

—Victoria Kumala Sakti, PhD, Postdoctoral Fellow at Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity

“Natalie’s strengths include her ability to deeply understand and connect with your work. She really understood my principles, my mission, my goals, and that helped to feel we were on a common endeavor. I had complete trust in Natalie because of her engagement.

She also didn’t just hand me a fish—she taught me HOW. I am a significantly better writer because her process showed me how I can adapt her method and style to my own self-editing. This was one of the greatest gifts. I called it “applying the Natalie method.” I am now able to self-edit and improve my own writing thanks to her!

The results also speak for themselves. When I queried my new material from Natalie’s edits, I immediately got a large agent interested in my manuscript. It worked! Natalie occupies a special place in my journey as a writer.”

—Justin Kolber, author of Ripped

“Natalie’s expertise in rhetoric and mastery of its strengths to improve writing is further evident in her ability to unpack an argument through the devices of language and reasoning. Meetings with her are like mini philosophical lessons and they are always enlightening.

I will recommend Natalie to everyone I know!! She is an incredible editor and a genuinely incredible person. I am so lucky to have crossed paths with her. I would recommend her to anyone at the start of their tenure-track timeline, those thinking about tenure, and those with tenure who would like to improve their writing and publication output. I think anyone in a learning or self-discovery process through research, teaching, or writing stands to benefit from Natalie’s expert insight.”

—Christianna Bennett, Assistant Professor and Director, Geofutures, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
