Thanks for visiting! I am an award-winning writer and editor with a passion for helping others tell compelling stories. My work has spurred community conversations, enriched the legacies of organizations, and was selected as notable in Best American Essays 2018.
Through my eight years of teaching business and research writing courses at DePaul University and Eastern Michigan University, I honed my editing eye and knowledge of APA, MLA and Chicago styles. Of my skill level, an education professor and recent client said: “Because of her previous experience teaching research writing, I felt very comfortable asking Natalie to proofread and edit my qualitative research report.”
My poetry and nonfiction appears in Canary, Diode, Dunes Review, Grist: A Journal of the Literary Arts, J Journal, The Hopper, Midwestern Gothic, Split Rock Review, and elsewhere. My journalism bylines include Michigan Radio and Rapid Growth Media.
I also have eight years of experience as a digital marketer and content writer. I help large and small organizations—from Anheuser-Busch to exciting local businesses—to improve their reach and communicate their unique visions. I am always learning and hold certifications in Google analytics, SEO and content writing.
Most recently, my work has focused on my commitment to environmental issues. I provided strategic content writing to a start up focused on supporting people in building planet-friendly habits and collaborated with a nonprofit in securing a grant to build local rain gardens.
On the creative front, my nonfiction on endangered lake sturgeon was nominated for the Pushcart Prize.
I live in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In my spare time, I love to wander Blandford Nature Center with my four-year-old son and hang out with my husband at The Meanwhile.
