That's where I come in.
I'm a writer, journalist, and developmental editor. Since 2020, I've worked with nonfiction authors, scholars, and subject-matter experts on books, essays, articles, and other substantial projects. My years as a writing professor taught me how to help writers develop their ideas and craft; my editorial work has taught me how to see the larger architecture of a piece; and my background in journalism taught me how to find the story, ask the right questions, and make complicated material accessible without flattening it.
I bring all three to the writing itself.
Essays & Articles

You don't have to think of yourself as a writer to have something worth writing.
We can start with a conversation. I'll ask questions, get to the material that matters, and figure out what the piece is really about. From there, I can work with interviews, conversations, research, notes, an existing draft, or whatever combination makes sense for the project.
I'll write in your voice, not mine. The goal is for the finished piece to sound like you—just clearer and more fully developed.

Book-Related Writing
Turn a book into more opportunities to say something meaningful.
A book often contains more ideas, stories, and expertise than can fit between its covers. Essays, articles, excerpts, and other substantial pieces can give those ideas another life—and introduce your work to readers who might never pick up the book itself.
I can help you identify what is worth developing and then shape and write the piece.

I'll turn the material into clear, engaging prose while preserving the perspective and voice that make it yours.

We'll refine the piece until the ideas are sharp, the structure holds, and the writing does what you want it to do.
Why work with me?
I come to this work from three directions: writing, journalism, and developmental editing.
I've written essays, journalism, criticism, and poetry, with work nominated for the Pushcart Prize and Best of the Net and recognized in The Best American Essays. I've also spent years helping writers figure out what they're trying to say, shape complicated material, and turn it into something that works on the page.
Those things inform each other.
I know how to write. I know how to look at a piece from the outside and see what's missing. And I know how to find the story or idea that gives a piece its shape.
That's what I bring to your project.
Why not just have AI write it?
AI can produce words quickly. That's not usually the hard part.
The harder part is figuring out what you actually want to say, what's worth saying, what belongs in the piece, and how to make it sound like a real person with something at stake.
That's the work I do. I listen, ask questions, notice what's interesting, and help shape the material before I start writing. I also bring a human understanding of voice, context, audience, and story that you can't get from simply putting your notes into a prompt.
If you just need something that sounds polished, AI may be enough. If you want a piece that comes from your experience or expertise and actually has something to say, that's where I can help.
